When flying ants reach sexual maturity, the queen produces reproducing ants that can establish new colonies. During reproduction, these reproductive ants fly away from their colonies in order to mate with ants from other areas, avoiding disease vulnerabilities that can occur when anything is inbred. A new colony of ants often begins in swarms looking for mates and starting a new colony. It is common for them to emerge after a heavy rain, but they are capable of swarming at any time of the year.
Flying ants can cause a full-scale ant infestation around your house if you have carpenter ants or pharaoh ants in your home. Here at Yale Pest Control, we can help you prevent and eliminate ant infestations.
